Level up your channels using threads.

How can threads help me?

Bring the right people and information together in channels. Share ideas, make decisions and add people in threads temporarily.

Easy access to threads

With this new update, you can now better organise your work in Slack channels.  The active threads section in every channel contains a list of all currently active threads for easy access.

  • Ways to access Threads

To access a channel's active threads, simply click on the active threads option on the top right or right-click on the channel name and select active threads.

  • Search threads by name

Using the new Active threads section in each Channel, you can categorise Slack threads by name and quickly search them.

  • Slack threads right click
  • Slack threads active threads

Less clutter

Now, you don't have to create channels for every single project, topic, or team you're involved in. Simply start a new discussion thread and invite people from various teams.

  • One channel many threads
  • Less channels for more threads

The threads can be archived for future reference. If you don't need them, you can also delete them.

    Add people temporarily

You can now temporarily add other members to threads. You don't need to add them to the channel. Just add them to the thread for whatever time, and they will be removed automatically after that.

Here's what Slack users had to say

In an anonymous survey, Users were asked if they had any suggestions for improvement.

"I think this would be a significant change. Rather than having everything happen at the same time, discussions would be more organised."

"I want to be able to manage and reach important messages in a channel without having an overly complicated process to do so."

"People may leave a company project they were working on. You have to be explicitly removed or you'll keep getting useless notifications."
